Do you think he managed to destroy the Locket before Voldemort caught up with him?

Did Dumbledore know who he was?

Did Dumbledore know that the locket wasn't going to be there?

I think it is Regulus Black, - but undoubtedly there'll be a twist!

I think the locket has not been destroyed and the Regulus merely sealed it so Voldemort could not access it. It's an effective destroyal and explains why no one could open it.

Yes, Dumbledore knew all about Regulus but! He clearly didn't know what Regulus knew.

Regulus Black was the first person that came to mind when I read about the note and the initials R.A.B. I was sure it must be him and when I got online after reading it, I found that everyone else was thinking along the same lines. This said, I very much doubt that RAB will be Regulus Black. I've been a member of Harry Potter message boards for ages and have noticed that however wonderful the theories may be, they are seldom correct. JK Rowling is an amazing writer and it is nigh on impossible to predict what she may come up with for the next part of the book. I think we are all going to be surprised by who RAB is.

I doubt the locket has been destroyed. I think that Harry will have to find the locket and do it himself. Dumbledore has helped him already, but now that Dumbledore has gone, I think it is left up to Harry to take care of the remaining horcruxes.

I think Dumbledore may have had some theories about who RAB was, but was waiting until he got back to Hogwarts and had time to think about it before sharing his thoughts with Harry. I'm sure he must have thought the locket was intact because he risked so much, including Harry's safety to get the locket.

I think it might have been the locket that was in Grimmauld Place, but on the other hand, there could be another twist and a surprise for us.
