I've just had one of my brainwaves (!) whilst I was writing a response to the locket thread.
How is it, that Regulus Black (Assuming that he is the RAB) had access enough to Voldemort to learn about Horcruxes, when Snape, his right hand man was apparently clueless?
Remember that Regulus Black was so low down in the Death Eaters ranks, it's unlikely that Voldemort even bothered to kill him. (According to Sirius in OotP)
Does that tiny little thought tell me that Snape really is a true Death Eater?!

A very plausible and thoughtful post. (+)
Nowhere (as far as I can see) does Dumbledore mention that Snape was involved with the Horcrux thingy. Not even with his hand, he just said that it was the result of a powerful curse - could've even been a protectant of the Horcrux.
Of course this goes against my sympathy to Snape... perhaps my sympathy was miss-placed and he really is evil and Ron was right all along.
This brings me to the rather unsuccessful Occlumency lessons - remember that Voldemort only left Harry's head because of the love he found there. (the Atrium OotP) So what's there to say that Snape wasn't messing with his head and was making things easier for Voldemort.
Very nice theory, I like it!

Ok, I've got something to go with your theory.
Horcruxes are the reason that Voldemort has so much power over the Death Eaters.
Simply because they know he's immortal.
There can only be so many different types of immortality (and I wouldn't say many - look how precious the Philosophers Stone was!) and any educated Death Eater would be able to work it out.
The way that I see it, Horcruxes must be the best known secret around!!
And to add even more.. Death Eaters must fear and loathe Voldemort - effectively they're trapped with him (and none of them sought him when he was vanquished) so they dared not overthow him because of the Horcruxes and immortality - they knew it was pointless.
But Regulus (R.A.B.) wanted to try. He really wanted to try. So he did and he got one.
Oh and I'm 'stickying' this!!
